Ukraine has targeted Russia’s key military and energy facilities in occupied parts of Ukraine and deep in Russia. Ukrainian troops struck a Russian Ka-27 shipborne multifunctional helicopter near the village of Kamyshly in annexed Crimea Peninsula on February 17, the General Staff of Ukrainian Armed Forces reported on Tuesday. In addition to the helicopter, Ukrainian forces also struck three Russian UAV command posts earlier on February 16. The targeted command posts are located in the area of Huliaipole in occupied parts of southeastern Zaporizhzhia region; near Anatolyevka in Russia’s border Kursk region in the area of the settlement of Zatyshchya in Zaporizhzhia region. The extent of Russia’s losses is being determined, the General Staff said. Multiple attacks were also reported deep in Russia on Tuesday night, causing fires at energy and industrial facilities. According to Telegram channels, drones hit the Ilsky oil refinery in the Krasnodar region, sparking a blaze. Ukraine’s General Staff confirmed the operation on Ilsky oil refinery that was described as one of southern Russia’s largest oil-processing facilities, with an annual primary refining capacity of 6.6 million tons, and as a supplier to the Russian military. The statement added that Ukrainian forces also targeted Russian troop concentrations in the occupied part of the Zaporizhzhia region, including areas near Rozivka and Lyubymivka. Logistics sites were reportedly hit in occupied Donetsk and near the settlement of Lidine in the Donetsk region. Additionally, a communications hub belonging to Russia’s 127th Motorized Rifle Division was struck near Zelenopil in occupied Zaporizhzhia. The scale of the damage and any Russian casualties are still being determined. In a separate attack, drones struck the Metafrax Chemicals plant in the city of Gubakha in the Perm region, more than 1,600 kilometers from Ukraine’s border. The facility, which is Russia’s largest methanol producers, is linked to Russia’s defense-industrial sector and has been under Russian state control and Western sanctions since 2024. In the Krasnodar region, falling drone debris damaged a locomotive depot in the Krymsky district, officials said, though no injuries were reported. Alerts were also reported in Kazan, local channels said. In Russian-occupied Mariupol in the Donetsk region, Telegram channels reported a fire at the port after drone activity, though there was no immediate official confirmation.
