The United States should supply Ukraine with Tomahawk cruise missiles so Kyiv can strike the infrastructure Russia uses to produce drones that terrorize Ukrainian cities, Senator Lindsey Graham said. “I want to give Tomahawks to Ukraine,” Graham said at the Munich Security Conference.
“I want the United States to supply Tomahawks to reach out and hurt the infrastructure that Putin counts on to build the drones and all the other stuff. I want to change the military equation.” The senator also said Washington should increase pressure on Moscow to help bring about substantive peace talks. He said he supports a bipartisan sanctions package against Russia that has stalled in Congress for over a year and predicted President Donald Trump ultimately will sign it. “He’s asked me, like, three times, where’s the bill? He went from like, ‘I don’t know about this’ to ‘Yeah, that’s good idea,” Graham told Politico. Politico said Graham meant that Trump’s pressure on Europe has strengthened NATO and that allies should turn higher defense spending into more active support for Ukraine. Recall, earlier, Graham also called on President Donald Trump to begin supplying Ukraine with Tomahawk cruise missiles and to intensify pressure on the Russian leader, Vladimir Putin, after Russia’s latest large-scale strikes on Ukrainian cities. He also added that the US and Europe should pursue Trump’s idea of targeting buyers of Russian oil that, in Graham’s words, “prop up” Russia’s war effort. Graham pointed to US tariffs on India as an example of how such pressure could reduce purchases of Russian oil, arguing that similar steps by other major buyers could help end the war. "Clearly the pressure we’re applying to Putin to come to the peace table and stop massive attacks against Ukraine is not working. President Trump’s idea of going after Putin’s oil customers who prop up his war machine should be pursued with vigor by the U.S. and Europe. President Trump has crippled Putin’s economy by going after oil companies and refineries. Tariffs on India is a good example of how things can change. India is now buying dramatically less Russian oil, and if the other large purchasers would follow suit, it would help end this bloodbath. Finally, after this massive attack last night, I would urge President Trump to start a process to provide Ukraine with Tomahawk missiles which would be a game changer militarily," he said. The remarks were made as Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy accused Russia of breaking a commitment conveyed to the United States by attacking Ukraine’s energy infrastructure during a severe cold snap. Zelenskyy said Russia disregarded a US call for halt to strikes on energy facilities and hit the power system, cutting heat and electricity as temperatures dropped below zero.
