As reported Ukrainian drones strike reinforced concrete shelters housing Iskander systems in Crimea. Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces reported that the operation took place on the night of April 28. The camouflaged equipment was located on the territory of a former missile base near the village of Ovrazhky, 40 kilometers east of occupied Simferopol. “From there, the missiles could reach the front line or rear cities of Ukraine in a matter of minutes,” the Special Operations Forces noted. Russian troops had hidden Iskander tactical missile systems in reinforced concrete shelters. However, Ukrainian Middle Strike drones managed to penetrate the shelters and strike the systems. During the raid, strike drones recorded the results of the operation: the released footage shows fires in the breached shelters. The fires were monitored throughout the day by NASA FIRMS satellites, which displayed the fires on a map. Local residents reported at night that a group of UAVs was moving through the Dzhankoy district toward the Bilohirsk district. The so-called “Governor of Sevastopol,” Mikhail Razvozhayev, confirmed the drone attack. This is not the first strike on these systems in Crimea. In February Special Operations Forces troops struck Russian rear and operational infrastructure targets in the temporarily occupied territory of Ukraine with drones. In the village of Pasechnoye, in the temporarily occupied territory of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea, Ukrainian troops struck a storage site for an Iskander tactical missile system. Powerful explosions were recorded at the impact site. Additionally, a remote pilot control station of the Rubicon unit was destroyed in the village of Vysokoye in the temporarily occupied territory of the Zaporizhzhia region. Several drones reached their target. İn March Ukraine’s Defense Forces released a video showing the work of Deep Strike drone units, which managed to destroy at least one launcher of the russian 9K720 Iskander operational-tactical missile system and also strike a storage site used by Russian occupation forces. According to the report, the targets were located on the temporarily occupied Crimean Peninsula. The destroyed launcher was deployed near the village of Vyshneve. Russian forces had moved it to a launch area and concealed it in a tree line. The drones struck the launcher while it was loaded with missiles, as indicated by a secondary detonation of the ammunition. At the same time, using intelligence provided by the local resistance movement, Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces also struck a hangar in Crimea, this time in the settlement of Kurortne. According to available information, russian forces were storing additional launchers of the 9K720 Iskander there. However, based on the currently available footage, it is not yet possible to determine the scale of Russian losses at that site. In any case, the destruction of an Iskander launcher is a relatively rare event. Confirmed cases of such losses have been limited. One of the most notable incidents occurred in September last year, when six vehicles belonging to an Iskander missile unit were reportedly destroyed.
