Ukrainian tank crews have thwarted Russian efforts to capture a position on the outskirts of the village of Hryshyne village in eastern Donetsk region. According to a statement by the 7th Air Assault Corps, Russian forces managed to enter the village in Pokrovsk district following a failed mechanized attack in the area last week. A small infantry group survived the assault and concealed itself in homes and farm buildings on Hryshyne’s eastern edge, planning to wait for reinforcements before launching attacks on Ukrainian units from the rear. Their positions were uncovered through coordinated efforts between the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade and neighboring units operating within the 7th Rapid Response Air Assault Corps’ zone. Once the locations were confirmed, commanders ordered a Leopard 2 tank crew into action. Video recorded from inside the tank shows the German-made Leopard 2 systematically destroying the buildings where Russian troops were hiding. The tank crew from the 155th Separate Mechanized Brigade, named after Anna of Kyiv, prevented the enemy from gaining a foothold in Hryshyne, eliminating the remaining assault troops with precise fire. Meanwhile, Commander-in-Chief of Ukrainian Armed Forces Oleksandr Syrskyi said that Russia is bringing reserves toward Pokrovsk and Russian troops are seeking a breakthrough using small groups. It should be noted that Germany delivered Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine in 2023, after months of internal debate and pressure from NATO allies. Ukrainian crews employ Leopard 2s not only in traditional armored roles but also in support of infantry, striking fortified positions, disrupting enemy assaults, and targeting troops sheltering in buildings or tree lines. The situation in the Pokrovsk district remains intense with heavy fighting and frequent clashes along the front lines. Ukrainian forces and Russian troops continue to engage in regular combat, with the area around Pokrovsk among the most active sectors of the war. Ukrainian commanders have reported numerous combat engagements as they work to repel Russian advances and hold defensive positions, while Russian forces persist with assaults and attempts to break through Ukrainian lines.
