On the South-Slobozyansk direction, Ukrainian drones have destroyed a Russian “underground city”. The operation was carried out by operators from the Hart brigade who destroyed a fortified strongpoint along with its network of bunkers and shelters, according to the State Border Guard Service.
The South-Slobozyansk front covers combat operations in Kharkiv Oblast. In the fall of 2025, the Russian Ministry of Defense publicly announced plans to advance toward Kupiansk and Vovchansk, aiming to create a “buffer zone” and open a path to Sloviansk and Kramatorsk.
Recently, Russian forces have constructed a full-fledged fortified area in this sector of the Kharkiv front, an intricate network of bunkers and connecting trenches designed for prolonged defense.
Russian forces sought to conceal themselves underground from Ukrainian attacks and maintain control over access to their positions.
But, Ukraine’s Vampire bomber drone destroyed bunker by bunker, shelter by shelter, forcing Russian units to retreat deeper into their lines. The operation was led by a soldier with the callsign Somali, commander of the Rover unit, who rose from an infantry soldier to head one of the most effective bomber drone crews.
The South Slobozhansky direction has become one of the quiet pressure points of the war. Not quiet because nothing happens — quiet because everything happens methodically.
Russia’s plan in this sector was clear by autumn 2025. Push toward Kupiansk. Threaten Vovchansk. Create a buffer zone that could later open paths toward Sloviansk and Kramatorsk. Not a blitz — a grind.
To support that plan, Russian engineers built an extensive fortified hub. Dugouts connected by tunnels. Covered firing points. Observation posts protected from overhead attack. Shelters designed to absorb blast and fragmentation. From above, there was almost nothing to see. From below, it was a maze. Traditionally, fortifications like these are hard to destroy without infantry assaults or sustained artillery fire.
Recall, Ukraine said it had retaken two settlements in the northern Kharkiv region and pushed Russian troops back in Kupiansk, a key railway hub that Russia claimed to have seized last month.
"Kindrashivka, Radkivka and their outskirts have been liberated, as well as a number of neighborhoods in northern Kupiansk," the Khartia army corps said on social media.
