Operators from the Raid regiment of Ukraine’s Unmanned Systems Forces carried out a strike on a command post belonging to the 9th Motor Rifle Brigade of Russia’s 51st Combined Arms Army in the Russian-occupied city of Pokrovsk. The regiment announced the operation on social media and published footage of the attack. The Ukrainian unit said Russian troops had concealed the command center inside the ruins of a damaged high-rise building in an effort to avoid detection and targeting. However, Ukrainian drone operators were still able to locate and hit the site. Russia’s 51st Combined Arms Army was established in August last year using units from the so-called “2nd Army Corps” of the self-proclaimed Donetsk People’s Republic. The formation has been heavily involved in combat operations in the Donetsk region. The Raid regiment stated that the destruction of the command post is expected to reduce Russia’s ability to coordinate and plan offensive operations in eastern Ukraine. The regiment had previously struck another Russian military target in late April, targeting a temporary deployment site of the 36th Brigade of Russia’s 29th Combined Arms Army, which is also active in fighting in eastern Ukraine.
