Footage has been released in social media, showing residents of Chernihiv region in northern Ukraine welcome the Ukrainian hostages returning from Russian captivity today. The video shared in X social media platform shows Ukrainians gathered along the road with Ukrainian flags waving at the prisoners of war who are being transported in vehicle, accompanied by police cars. Some residents have posters welcoming the Ukrainian hostages. Kyiv and Moscow exchanged more prisoners on Monday as part of the agreement reached during Istanbul meeting last month. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy and the Russian Defence Ministry confirmed the swap, without specifying how many prisoners of war were exchanged. Among the returned Ukrainians are injured and seriously wounded soldiers, as well as those under 25, Zelenskyy said. The Ukrainian leader said the prisoner exchange process is quite complicated, there are many sensitive details, and negotiations continue virtually every day. Ukraine’s Coordination Headquarters for the Treatment of Prisoners of War released a video said to show freed prisoners disembarking from a bus in Chernihiv region, with some returnees being promptly wrapped in Ukrainian flags.
