Ukraine has struck Russian air defence assets in occupied eastern parts of the country. Russia’s Kasta mobile surveillance radar system has been destroyed in the southeastern Zaporizhzhia region. The operation to target the system was carried out by pilots of the 1st Center of Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces, SSO, jointly with their comrades from the SSO. The intelligence information about the radar system was provided by operators of the 414th Separate Brigade “Birds of Madyar” military drone unit. Video footage of the operation has been shared in social media. Video captures the moment of the strike on the Kasta system, followed by a strong explosion. It should be noted that Kasta can detect and track low-altitude aerial targets, including missiles, drones and helicopters. Other Russian air defence assets – “Imbir” radar system, a transporter-loader vehicle from the S-300V air defence missile system have been struck near embattled Mariupol city in eastern Donetsk region. Ukraine’s Special Operations Forces shared the video of the overnight operation targeting the Imbir mobile air surveillance and acquisition radar. Ukraine has intensified its campaign against Russian air defence assets as part of an effort to degrade Moscow’s ability to protect occupied territories and critical military infrastructure. Since the full-scale invasion began in February 2022, Ukrainian forces have increasingly targeted surface-to-air missile systems, radar installations, and command posts deep behind the front lines, aiming to create temporary gaps in Russia’s layered air defence network.
