SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – The race for South Carolina’s next governor is heating up. Two Republican candidates have announced their bids this week: Attorney General Alan Wilson and State Senator Josh Kimbrell.
On Saturday, upstate State Senator Josh Kimbrell took to the podium at Bowen’s Landing in Inman, laying out his vision for the Palmetto State.
“I’m running for governor because I believe I have a certain skill set in the legislature that I can deliver results,” Kimbrell told the crowd. “We will create more jobs, more opportunities, more businesses, and make it more affordable for families to live here.”
The District 11 Senator also spoke about what he’s not going to do on the campaign trail: “I don’t think the people of this country and the people of this state are interested in watching each other rip each other to shreds.”
Earlier in the week, South Carolina Attorney General Alan Wilson, who has served four terms, kicked off his bid for governor in front of a packed crowd in his hometown of Lexington.
“Together, we fought to keep people safe, uphold the rule of law and protect our freedoms. The people of South Carolina called on us to serve, and we delivered with honesty and integrity,” Wilson said.
The prosecutor reiterated his commitment to serve the people of South Carolina, saying, “We will reach our full potential and capitalize on the opportunities in front of us. We’ll leave no stone unturned, no call unanswered. We will again deliver for the people of South Carolina and reclaim our standing as the envy of the South.”
Both candidates say they are committed to working towards eliminating state income tax.
Several other Republicans are rumored to join the race, including Lieutenant Governor Pam Evette and Representative Nancy Mace.
