CHICAGO (WGN) — A little girl is recovering in the hospital on Wednesday morning after she was shot on the city’s South Side overnight.
Chicago police say the gunfire erupted just before 10 p.m. after an argument broke out between the child’s family and the occupants of a white SUV in the 3000 block of South State Street in Douglas.
Officers said the victim, an 8-year-old girl, was in a vehicle with family members when they got into an argument with the occupants of a nearby white SUV.
Police have not said if the vehicles were moving or parked at the time of the incident.
Amid the argument, a male offender inside the white SUV allegedly threatened to shoot at the victim’s vehicle. Officers said he then allegedly fired two gunshots at the car, striking the little girl in her leg.
Following the shooting, the gunman fled the scene and Chicago fire crews were called to the scene to treat the girl.
She was later taken to the hospital where she was listed in fair condition.
Authorities say no arrests have been made in connection with the shooting and an investigation into the incident is now underway.
