According to California Highway Patrol Grass Valley, a fatal crash happened on eastbound State Route 20, west of Rex Reservoir Road, at around 3:30 p.m. A man from Penn Valley was driving a 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee eastbound on SR-20. The jeep traveled off the right shoulder and struck a guardrail.
CHP Grass Valley said that the vehicle veered across all lanes and entered the westbound traffic lanes, directly into the path of a 2004 Toyota Scion, which was driving by the 23-year-old man out of Rough and Ready.
The front left of the Toyota crashed into the Jeep, the official said. Emergency medical personnel responded to the scene and had the driver of the jeep transported to a local hospital to Rideout Memorial Hospital in Marysville, for moderate injuries.
CHP stated that the driver of the Toyota was airlifted to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries.
At this time, officials said that the name of the deceased will be released by the Nevada County Coroner’s Office after the next of kin have been notified. The crash remains under investigation by the CHP Grass Valley crew.
