RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The second tropical depression of the 2025 Atlantic Hurricane Season formed Saturday afternoon in the Bay of Campeche.
An Air Force Hurricane Hunter aircraft investigated the system earlier today as satellite data demonstrated a well-defined center of circulation and increasing thunderstorm activity.
Meteorologists with the National Hurricane Center said this was a sign of much better organization over the last six hours, and indicates additional strengthening is likely.
Forecasters expect this system to become Tropical Storm Barry over the next 24 hours.

Tropical depression two is forecast to move west-northwest toward eastern Mexico, likely making landfall by Monday.
Tropical storm watches are currently in effect for parts of the Mexican coast. This system is not expected to bring direct impacts to the U.S.
Tropical Storm Barry would be the second named storm of what is expected to be an above-average season for tropical weather development across the Atlantic.
