Bride-to-be says Tampa wedding venue abruptly shut; refuses refund

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Signs on the former Crystal Ballroom Tampa venue have been taken down, and the event location appears to have permanently shut its doors.

“I was going to have my ceremony and my reception there and they were going to pretty much manage all of it. So I just had to bring in a couple of vendors outside and I had made close to 4 thousand dollars in payments,” said bride-to-be Eva Coffee.

Coffee said her wedding plans came crashing down Tuesday with one email.

The Tampa location shows signs that a new company, Tribecca Ballroom, is taking over.
News Channel 8 went to the new company’s office in Brandon to see if we could get some answers.

“Absolutely not, we have nothing to do with Crystal Ballroom or are affiliated with them in any sense of motion,” Tribecca Ballroom owner Anderson Ruiz said.

Both franchised locations are listed as owned by Glamorous Sparkles LLC.

Phone calls to Crystal Ballroom went unanswered, and emails were kicked back with an automatic reply stating they will return all calls and emails at their earliest convenience.

“I have to look now for another venue, and I’m not alone in this. There are other brides and other people that had special occasions that are coming up that are now left in the lurch,” Cofee said.

Ruiz said he’s happy to help the couple however he can, but since he is not affiliated with the Crystal Ballroom, he cannot provide a refund.

Coffee said she wants to see if her event insurance can cover the loss, and that she’s also considering legal action.
