CHICAGO — A new and improved space dedicated to state-of-the-art technology aimed at cracking down on and tracking crime on the Chicago Transit Authority (CTA) is up and running.
The upgraded space inside of the First Police District allows officers to monitor transit stops and stations across the entire city.
Each of the city’s 22 police districts have a space called an SDSC Room where officers use technology to monitor and analyze crime. This enhanced space inside of the First District tracks CTA locations throughout the city in multiple districts, and assists suburban areas where CTA operates, too.
In this new larger space, officers are joined by robbery task force detectives who can see events as they are unfolding.
While incidents are in progress, the teams in the SDSC Room can relay information directly to officers responding in the field.
“We’ve seen this in our districts where we’re watching things real-time from that SDSC Room, they’re able to relay information to officers who have boots on the ground a lot faster than it going through OEMC at the time,” said CPD Supt. Larry Snelling.
The improved space inside of the First District can monitor more than 4,000 cameras.
