CHICAGO — An investigation is underway on Friday morning after a stabbing and fire left four people, including two children, injured and a third child dead.
A source confirmed to WGN News on Friday morning that three children, whose ages are unknown, were among those injured in a stabbing near the 3600 block of West Palmer Street in Logan Square.
A source later confirmed that a 5-year-old involved in the incident died from their injuries.
Simultaneously, as authorities investigated the scene, fire crews battled a blaze that erupted in the area, though it is unclear how the scenes are connected.
The fire erupted at a home in the area before spreading to another nearby home. Crews were eventually able to get the flames under control by around 11:30 a.m.
A source said one person who was inside the building where the fire erupted was taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation.
A fifth person, whose injuries and condition are unclear, was taken into custody following the incident.
Specific details surrounding the incidents remain unclear.
