Crews investigating late night house fire in Kansas City neighborhood

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — An investigation is underway after a single-story home caught fire in a Kansas City neighborhood late Saturday night.

According to the Kansas City Fire Department, at about 11:00 p.m., crews were called to the area of East 48th Street and Sterling Avenue on reports of a house fire.

When KCFD arrived, crews reported seeing heavy smoke coming from the garage and used a handline to extinguish a fire in the garage attic.

The fire was reportedly under control just before 11:20 p.m.

Afterward, KCFD initiated salvage and overhaul operations to put out any hot spots inside the home, and then searched the structure. According to KCFD, the search came back clear.

The Red Cross was ordered to help two adults and one child in the aftermath of the fire.

KCFD said the cause of the fire is currently under investigation.
