Fiery crash with tractor-trailer closes I-40 in Burke County

MORGANTON, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — Westbound Interstate 40 is shut down in Burke County Tuesday afternoon after a fiery crash involving a tractor-trailer. 

According to N.C. Department of Transportation, the accident was reported at 2:40 p.m. July 1 on I-40 near mile marker 100 west of Morganton. All westbound lanes are closed for emergency vehicles and one lane is closed eastbound. 

NCDOT suggests that westbound drivers take Exit 100 (Jamestown Road). Take a left on Jamestown and continue west to Causby Road. Turn right on Causby Road to re-access I-40 West.

The extend of any injuries from the accident is unknown at this point.

The scene is expected to be cleared by 5 p.m.
