SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — Fire crews are responding to a brush fire burning in East County near the community of Jamul, near Rancho San Diego.
The fire, dubbed the Steele Fire, is burning among the hills between Rancho San Diego and Jamul, south of Campo Road and east of Sweetwater Reservoir.
According to Cal Fire San Diego, the fire is burning on Star Acres Drive and structures along Vista Cielo Lane are being threatened.
The initial call about the fire came in Wednesday shortly before 2 p.m. from the area of Steele Canyon and Campo Roads, authorities said.
As of 2:30p.m., the fire is reported to be five acres with a moderate rate of spread.
The County of San Diego issued several evacuation orders and warnings for communities near the location of the Steele Fire.
Areas (shown in yellow) below State Route 94, east of Miller Ranch Road and bordered by Via Las Faldas to the east, are under an evacuation warning.
Areas (shown in red) north of SR-94, east of Campo Road, southeast of Jamacha Road, south of Willow Glen Drive and bordered by Fowler Canyon Road to the east are under evacuation orders.
Steele Canyon High School at 12440 Campo Road in Spring Valley has been designated as the evacuation site.

The fire is burning in an area under a heat advisory that was issued around 2 a.m. Wednesday for the inland valleys of the county. Some other parts of the county such as in the deserts could expect to see triple digits Wednesday and Thursday as extreme heat sweeps over the region.
Firefighters are responding to the fire as conditions in the area are reported to be at least 90 degrees with wind gusts between 12 to 17 miles per hour.
