We’ve been stuck in the same pattern for the last several days, and it won’t be changing as we wrap up this final evening of June. Hot and humid conditions have combined with a nearby front to spark up scattered rain and storms heading toward sunset. Most of the activity has been west of I-81, but we’ll see soggy and stormy conditions slowly push east toward DC and the I-95 corridor. Due to the fact the heavier rain and storms are moving at such a slow pace, there is a flooding threat closer to the metro areas. A Flood Watch has been issued for the possibility of localized flooding until 11 PM tonight.

Any leftover rain and storms will end by midnight tonight, with another round of hot and humid conditions expected to develop Tuesday morning ahead of a cold front. As this front sweeps into this charged atmosphere, widespread rain and storms are expected to impact the entire DMV. Unlike the last few days, the severe threat is higher, with most of the region east of I-81 under a Level 2/5 Risk tomorrow afternoon and evening.

After a quiet morning, things are expected to quickly ramp up by 1-2 PM across the mountains. From there, the entire region will see rain and storms from 3 PM to 10 PM at least, and this time frame could be expanded if the cold front loses some forward speed. Everyone is fair game for the threat of flooding rain, especially where storms repeat over the same locations. On top of that, the threat for localized damaging wind gusts is there with any severe storms, especially if they form into a broken line. Watch for downed trees and power lines during the evening commute when the worst of these storms will be ripping through. Everything will calm back down by around midnight, with only a few showers hanging around east of I-95 into Wednesday morning.

Once the initial cold front clears on Wednesday morning, it will turn beautiful as we head toward the 4th of July. Temperatures will only rebound into the mid-80s with much lower humidity on Wednesday. High pressure will turn skies mostly sunny on Thursday before a secondary cold front arrives and drops the humidity even more heading into the 4th of July. The holiday will be downright beautiful, but we will start to heat back up through the rest of the holiday weekend. Temperatures will rebound into the 90s with rising humidity on Saturday and Sunday, but it will continue to remain dry. Isolated showers and storms will pop back up in the heat and humidity starting next Monday.
Have a great Monday night!
