PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — A former employee at Taft High School in Lincoln City was sentenced to 18 months in prison on Tuesday after raping a student in 2024, the Lincoln County District Attorney’s office announced.
Angela Schafer, 53, pleaded guilty on Tuesday to one count of third-degree rape for knowingly engaging in sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 16 and one count of furnishing alcohol to a minor.
Officials say Schafer was employed by the Lincoln County School District as a health services advocate at Taft High School.
Lincoln City police began investigating Schafer in Sept. 2024 after receiving allegations of an inappropriate relationship between her and a student. She was indicted by a grand jury in Nov. 2024.
“Under Oregon sentencing guidelines, Schafer was initially subject to a probationary sentence given her lack of criminal history. However, given the vulnerability of the victim and Schafer’s position of power or trust over the victim, the State planned to seek a prison sentence through enhancement factors after trial,” the DA’s office said.
Schafer was taken into custody after the sentencing was handed down. She will be required to register as a sex offender, complete an alcohol and drug treatment program, and pay a $8,500 fine.
