Around 1:21 p.m. on June 28, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call in the 9000 block of Jones Avenue in Durham about a non-responsive infant. When emergency crews arrived at the scene, they found the baby and initiated CPR and other life-saving measures. Deputies said the infant was subsequently transported to a local hospital for further treatment before being transferred to an out-of-area hospital.
A toxicology screen conducted at the hospital revealed that the infant tested positive for fentanyl, according to BCSO. Following this discovery, detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence and the child’s parents, identified as Logan Bandy, 31, of Durham, and Tabitha Porter, 31, of Oroville.
During a search of the residence, BCSO said it discovered drug paraphernalia and narcotics. Detectives said the evidence gave them cause to believe the infant had been exposed to the drug paraphernalia and fentanyl.
Bandy was arrested for alleged child endangerment and possession of a controlled substance with prior drug convictions. Porter was also arrested for alleged child endangerment.
The incident remains under investigation. Anyone with additional information can contact the BCSO Felony Investigations Unit at 530-538-7671.
