AUSTIN (KXAN) — After a wetter-than-normal May was followed by a likely drier-than-normal June, the stage is set for our hottest months of the year.
July is our second hottest month of the year on average, with only August hotter. July is also our second driest month of the year as well.
July temperature and rain outlooks
According to the latest monthly outlook from the Climate Prediction Center, our second hottest month is looking near normal, if not leaning slightly hotter than normal, especially southwest of Austin.
Austin and all of Central Texas are favored for near-normal rainfall with wetter conditions expected to our east and southeast.
Last July (2024) was a particularly wet one with more than three inches of rain falling in Austin, helping to keep our triple-digit count lower than most of us expected for the summer.
What’s a normal July?
Normally in July, our high temperatures are deep into the 90s, and our nights are in the mid-70s. We usually get less than two inches of rain. Only February is drier than an average July.

Typically, July brings 10 triple-digit days a year in Austin at Camp Mabry. Here’s how the last five Julys have fared for the number of 100º+ days.

Triple digits by month
Through June 24 of this year, we’ve had two triple-digit days in Austin at Camp Mabry, but both of those came in May.
We typically get three triple-digit days in June, but the majority of our 100º heat comes in July and August, making up 23 of our annual average of 29 triple-digit days.
