Jury acquits Dominguez on first degree murder charges; hung on second degree murder, manslaughter

(FOX40.COM) — The jury in the trial of Carlos Dominguez told the judge that they had acquitted the defendant on both charges of first-degree murder but were hung on the second-degree murder charges and manslaughter.

The judge instructed the jury to consider first- and second-degree murder charges as well as manslaughter in the deaths of David Breaux and Karim Abou Najm.

Dominguez was also charged with the attempted murder of Kimberlee Guillory and unlawful use of a deadly weapon.

The jury has deliberated for nine full days since June 6.

The judge declared a mistrial on the manslaughter charge.

The defense has asked that the retrial date be set for July 24, which the prosecution said it would agree to.

The stabbing spree that the defendant and former UC Davis student admitted to on the stand occurred in 2023 and rocked the otherwise quiet college town.
