CLEVELAND (WJW) — A contractor working at a West 3rd Street building site for Sherwin-Williams was killed in an overnight accident.
Cleveland police were called to the site in the 1300 block of West 3rd Street just after midnight on Friday.
Cleveland EMS and firefighters were already at the scene, where a 48-year-old man was found beneath a tow motor he had been operating, according to a report from Cleveland police.
EMS workers pronounced the man dead on scene.
Julie Young, Sherwin-Williams’ vice president of communications, issued a statement Friday that read:
“We are saddened to share that shortly after midnight this morning, a laborer working for a site services trade contractor, was fatally injured in an accident involving a forklift. Emergency response was immediately notified and was quickly on the scene. No one else was injured. We share our deepest sympathies with the family, loved ones, and co-workers. Safety remains our highest priority, and we are supporting a full investigation into the circumstances surrounding this incident.”
The Occupational Safety and Health Administration confirmed Friday it is investigating the incident. The Cleveland police Accident Investigation Unit is also reviewing the incident.
