Schottenheimer, alongside Owner, President, and GM Jerry Jones and COO Stephen Jones, addressed members of the media in a Press Conference on Monday morning ahead of camp’s official opening.
Among the wide variety of topics were Micah Parsons’ contract negotiations, offseason moves and Super Bowl expectations.
“I think we’ve addressed many areas that bit us as I look at what last year was about,” Jerry Jones said. “Having Dak under center is a good place to start.”
Notable offseason additions include Wide Receiver George Pickens, 1st-round pick Tyler Booker and running backs Miles Sanders and Javonte Williams. The Cowboys also resigned DT Osa Odighizuwa to a four-year extension.
Parsons is entering the final year of his rookie deal. Comparable talents in Browns Pass Rusher Myles Garrett and Steelers Star T.J. Watt reset the market with new contracts this offseason. Garrett signed a 4yr/$160 million deal while Watt bested it with a 3yr/$123 million deal worth $41 million per year.
“Everybody here is under contract,” Jerry Jones said on Parsons negotiations. “I’m appreciative of Micah being here. I really am.”
Jerry Jones alluded to Emmitt Smith’s contract negotiation in the 90s when answering questions related to the Parsons deal. Ultimately, team leadership is not concerned with the timeliness of negotiations and does not expect a deal to get done within the week.
