DOWNTOWN BROOKLYN (PIX11) — The man accused of fleeing the scene after mowing down two men in Brooklyn will be arraigned in criminal court on Saturday.
Juventino Anastacio Florentino, 23, faces charges of manslaughter, criminally negligent homicide, reckless driving, imprudent speeding, and disregarding a red light, police said on Friday.
Florentino was accused of speeding down Third Avenue in Sunset Park, Brooklyn, and hitting two men crossing 52nd Street around 4:30 a.m. on Friday, according to authorities. Police say Florentino continued driving despite the incident.
Surveillance video obtained by PIX11 News showed a dark-colored BMW sedan slamming into the pedestrians, taking them out in an instant. The victims, 80-year-old Kex Un Chen and Faqiu Lin, 59, died at the scene, police said.
Since 2018, 80 people have been killed or seriously injured along the same two-mile stretch of Third Avenue, according to Transportation Alternatives.
