Motorcyclist killed in collision with Chula Vista Police vehicle

CHULA VISTA, Calif. (FOX 5/KUSI) — A man in his late 20s was killed Friday evening following a collision between his motorcycle and a Chula Vista Police patrol vehicle, authorities confirmed.

The crash happened around 6:15 p.m. at the intersection of Olympic Parkway and Windingwalk Street, where a Chula Vista police officer was responding to a radio call. According to officials, the officer was turning left onto southbound Windingwalk Street from westbound Olympic Parkway when the motorcycle, which was traveling eastbound on Olympic Parkway, struck the side of the marked police cruiser.

The officer was transported to a nearby hospital for evaluation. Meanwhile, the motorcyclist suffered life-threatening injuries and later died at a local hospital. His identity has not been released at this time, though police confirmed he’s from Chula Vista.

California Highway Patrol (CHP) has taken over the investigation due to the incident’s severity and the involvement of a law enforcement officer. As of now, no further details have been released.
