(KRON) – California Governor Gavin Newsom has filed a $787 million defamation lawsuit against Fox News.
Per the lawsuit, the publication and host Jesse Watters manipulated a video to falsely show that Newsom lied about a phone call with President Donald Trump.
The President told the media that he and Newsom had a phone call “a day ago” on June 10, where Trump claimed to inform Newsom he was doing a “bad job.” Trump also claimed, “Los Angeles would be burning right now,” if he had not deployed the National Guard.
Newsom took to his X to say that never happened. “There was no call. Not even a voicemail. Americans should be alarmed that a President deploying Marines onto our streets doesn’t even know who he’s talking to.”
“If Fox News wants to lie to the American people on Donald Trump’s behalf, it should face consequences — just like it did in the Dominion case,” said Newsom. “Until Fox is willing to be truthful, I will keep fighting against their propaganda machine.”
Two years ago, Fox News agreed to pay $787.5 million to Dominion Voting Systems. The publication settled a similar defamation lawsuit over false election claims.
