HINCKLEY, Ohio (WJW) – Did you see it? An ominous cloud was spotted over Hinckley on Friday evening.
The photos seen below were taken by FOX 8 viewer Amanda Donihoo around 7:10 p.m. in the area of W. 130th Street.

So, what what is it? FOX 8 meteorologist Mackenzie Bart said it appears to be a scud cloud.
According to the National Weather Service, scud clouds, possibly the most common feature in the sky mistaken for tornadoes, “are low, ragged cloud fragments that can sometimes be located near the updraft region of the storm.”
The National Weather Service said these clouds lack organized, persistent rotation.
Bart confirmed that a thunderstorm passed through the area at that time. However, the storm wasn’t considered severe.
The clouds were spotted just a couple days after severe storms swept through Northeast Ohio on Wednesday evening, causing serious damage and knocking out power to thousands of residents. So far, the National Weather Service confirmed three tornadoes touched down during those storms.
Looking ahead, Northeast Ohio is getting ready for an extreme heat watch this weekend. Find the latest forecast right here.
