Search continues for dad who went missing in Cuyahoga River

CUYAHOGA FALLS, Ohio (WJW) — Rescue teams resumed their search Wednesday morning for a man who went missing in the Cuyahoga River over the weekend, after a rafting accident claimed the life of his 5-year-old son.

The incident occurred about 7 p.m. Saturday near Gorge Metro Park, when the raft the pair was in capsized.

The child’s body was later recovered, but the father remains unaccounted for.

Family members tell FOX 8 the missing man is 27-year-old Patrick Cross. They identified the 5-year-old victim as his son, Braxton Cross.

As of noon on Wednesday, the Cuyahoga Falls Fire Department was continuing the search effort with multiple swift water rescue teams.

About 40 people are involved in the ongoing search Tuesday, which includes the use of three boats, two drones and logistical support crews, according to city leaders. It was not clear how large the crew was Wednesday.

Officials said water levels have dropped nearly 3 feet since Monday, improving access to parts of the river, though the current remains dangerously strong.

Emergency officials continue to urge the public to stay clear of the area to avoid interfering with operations.
