SALT LAKE CITY, Utah (ABC4) — Salt Lake City Police Chief Brian Redd has announced new leadership changes for the department.
In an email sent on July 3, Chief Redd announced that three people will be departing their roles from SLC Police: Deputy Chief Victor Siebeneck, Deputy Chief Andrew Wright and Communications Administrative Director Brent Weisberg. Both Wright and Siebeneck were appointed to their positions by then-chief Mike Brown in 2023.
Redd announced three new people outside of SLCPD to take over these positions: Alex Garcia, Brandon Christiansen and Glen Mills.
Garcia will take over one of the Deputy Chief positions and most recently served as the Chief of Utah Adult Probation and Parole, having 22 years in law enforcement and previously served as interim and deputy director at Utah Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST). Redd says his broad experience and proven leadership make him a strong asset for the department.
Christansen is an 18-year veteran of the West Valley City Police Department and currently serves as Deputy Chief over the Patrol and Administrative Services Bureau, which includes K9, SWAT, Internal Affairs, Intelligence and Records. Christansen will also be assuming a deputy chief role with SLCPD.
Glen Mills will be taking over as Communications Director and Chief of Staff. Mills currently serves as the Director of Communications and Government Relations for the Utah Department of Corrections. Prior to this, he served a decade here at ABC4 as Chief Political Correspondent and host of Inside Utah Politics.
Additionally, Lt. Bill Manzanares will be promoted within the department to deputy chief as well. Manzanares has worked with SLCPD for 18 years in numerous roles, including SWAT Team Leader, Narcotics Sergeant and Patrol Division Commander.
Manzanares began his new role immediately, while Garcia, Christansen and Mills are expected to start in their positions near the end of July or beginning of August.
“These individuals bring exceptional leadership, experience, and a fresh perspective to our department,” Redd said. “I’m confident their contributions will strengthen our ability to serve and support both our personnel and the community. Again, I would like to thank Deputy Chief Victor Siebeneck, Deputy Chief Wright and Director Weisberg for all they have done for the department.”
