Spot fires from fireworks facility explosion burn home, car

(FOX40.COM) — Dozens of spot fires were ignited after a fireworks facility in Yolo County exploded on Tuesday.

The small fires, collectively referred to by Cal Fire as the Oakdale Fire, have burned roughly 78 acres. At least one home and a car were destroyed by the fire.

The fire was last reported as 0% contained.

Evacuation orders remain in place for the Esparto area but authorities said Madison residents are cleared to return home.

Esparto Fire Protection District Chief Curtis Lawrence said they are not investigating anything criminally related to the fire.

Gov. Gavin Newsom’s office suggested that the state is open to the possibility of criminal activity related to the fire.

“Our office is closely tracking the fire and explosion in Yolo County. @CAL_FIRE and @Cal_OES have deployed air and ground resources,” the governor’s office said in a social media post. “The State Fire Marshal has sent an arson and bomb investigation team, and stands ready to provide additional support as needed.”

The sheriff’s office also said that a bomb unit is also investigating the explosion.

Firefighters have not said if anyone was injured in the explosion.

The sheriff’s office is asking the community to avoid the area around the facility near Country Road 23 and Country Road 86A.
