According to Alesha Pichler, Community Relations Manager of the food bank, the most recent fire happened on Wednesday around 6:20 p.m.

Pichler stated that the food bank has high hopes that they will be able to reopen and provide its regular service to over 450 cars that regularly take a trip every day to the food bank.

“We want the public to know that we are still here, and will do our best to serve the community,” said Leonard Hansen, President & CEO of the Emergency Food Bank. “Our doors are open, and we will continue serving families in need, no matter what.”

At this time, the food bank staff is going to be working with city engineers to get access to the damage the fire has caused to the Center Street overpass, officials said.

Pichler said that even though the situation is concerning, the team is resolved in its mission to help fight hunger across San Joaquin County.

Each week, the food bank provides critical food assistance to hundreds of local families. Pichler added that the service will not be interrupted.

“This is a tough time, but the need in our community is even tougher,” Hansen added.
