RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — A restaurant in the North Hills area of Raleigh is working to “come back stronger than ever” following a temporary closure, stemming from an incident when police said an impaired woman smashed her car into the building on Friday night.
Officers initially responded to a report of a crash around 10 p.m. on the 4200 block of Six Forks Road, according to Raleigh police. When officers arrived on scene, police said they found an Alfa Romeo SUV that had crashed into a side window of Cucciolo Terrazza, which is an Italian restaurant located in the Eastern building.
The woman behind the wheel of the SUV was arrested on scene, charged with driving while impaired, police said.
As a result of damage caused to the kitchen and gas line inside the restaurant, Cucciolo Terrazza announced it would be closed until further notice.
CBS 17 reached out to Cucciolo Terrazza owner Jimmy Kim, who expressed his immense gratitude to everyone who stepped up to help the restaurant during their time of need.
“We are very grateful for the outpouring support from people around the area, neighboring businesses, and all the people who answered my phone calls and came out on Saturday to get initial assessments and repairs rolling,” Kim said.
He stated that although a few more inspections still need to be conducted, the damage sustained does not appear to be extensive.
“But since we have a gas line that runs right behind the wall where she hit, we are conducting a pressure test to make sure we don’t have any gas leak,” Kim added.
Despite the short-term setback, the owner said they are hoping to reopen their doors sometime this week.
“We are using this downtime for some deep cleaning, employee training and team building so that we can come back stronger than ever,” Kim said.
Police said nobody was hurt in the crash.
