PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Summer heat begins to build across western Oregon and southwest Washington this holiday weekend.
Sunnier skies return to the region as Portland prepares for the return of 80-degree heat Saturday. The start of the latest warming trend takes shape this weekend for much of the Pacific Northwest as highs in the 90s are expected early next week.
Those heading to the coast can catch a break of the summer-like warmth. Decreasing clouds will help coastal locations warm into the 60s Saturday as winds increase Sunday.
Those camping over the higher elevations of the Cascades can expect dry and clear skies for the rest of the weekend. Afternoon temperatures will warm into the 60s and 70s as overnight lows fall into the 40s.
Summer heat is expected to peak around the greater Portland, Vancouver area early next week. The heat isn’t expected to last longer than a day or two. A cooling trend takes place as clouds increase across the region Wednesday.

Another round of heat will return by the end of next week. This comes as dry and mostly sunny skies remain in the forecast.
