GREENWICH VILLAGE, N.Y. (PIX11) – Two young girls were seriously injured in a shooting in Greenwich Village Sunday night, police said.
The shooting happened in front of 3 Sheridan Square and West Fourth Street at around 10:15 p.m. Sunday night.
A 16-year-old girl was shot in the head and rushed to the hospital in critical condition. A 17-year-old girl was shot in the left leg and is also in the hospital, police said.
There was some sort of fight before the shooting, police said. Little more is known about who was involved in the fight. The area was crowded when the fight broke out, police said.
The shooting happened near the Stonewall Inn as New Yorkers celebrated pride across the city. The city’s Pride March came through the area of the shooting just hours earlier.
“[I’m] Saddened to learn about the shooting by the Stonewall Inn tonight as Pride celebrations were winding down,” Mayor Eric Adams said in a post to X. “During a time when our city should be rejoicing and celebrating members of our diverse LGBTQ+ community, incidents like this are devastating.”
There have been no arrests as investigators are still sweeping the area for clues.
