DALLAS (KDAF) — Think you know your “TL;DR” from your “ICYMI”?
A new study from language app Preply is uncovering which text acronyms are annoying or confusing Americans the most.
EMBM (Early Morning Business Meeting), AYOR (At Your Own Risk), and RLRT (Real-Life Retweet) were the most confusing text acronyms — because seriously, who’s even using those?
LMAO (Laughing My A** Off), GRATZ (short for Congratulations), and IANAL (I Am Not a Lawyer) were the most annoying text acronyms and abbreviations, because sometimes it’s better just to spell out a whole sentence.
Reddit, X (formerly Twitter), and TikTok were the online platforms with the most confusing acronyms, and Millennials were the generation who understood text acronyms the most, beating out Gen Z.
Gen Xers were most annoyed by LOL – 23% said they find the acronyms annoying, more than any other generation.
