SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) –Two thieves broke into a City Heights bar over the weekend, stealing the cash register and the ATM.
The owners of Space Bar, Angie and Lewis Dirkes, say the men jumped over the back fence and used a crowbar to get access into the bar on Saturday morning.
“We’re a small business, just trying to make it work,” said Lewis Dirkes.
He and his mom, Angie, recently purchased the cozy bar in February and have poured money, blood, sweat and tears into fixing it up.
“It’s like someone broke into your home. They came in and invaded our place that we try to keep running,” said Angie Dirkes.
Dirkes says the two men left in a black SUV after pulling the ATM across the floor and out the back.
On the morning of June 26, two men broke into Deano’s Pub in La Mesa and used power tools to cut open the ATM.
The owner says that’s the second time in one week the thieves broke into his bar.
Last weekend, a similar break-in happened at Pazzo’s Pizza in Scripps Ranch.
La Mesa police say they believe all three could be connected and are investigating.
