Tornado, flash flood warning issued in portion of central NC as Chantal moves inland

RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Warning and Flash Flood warning in part of central North Carolina due to Tropical Depression Chantal.

A severe thunderstorm was located by NWS in Shannon near Red Springs that was capable of developing a tornado. It is moving west at 10 mph.

“Flying debris will be dangerous to those caught without shelter,” the advisory said. “Mobile homes will be damaged or destroyed. Damage to roofs, windows, and vehicles will occur. Tree damage is likely.”

Severe flooding is also at risk for central NC in the midst of CBS 17’s Alert Day. There has been an ongoing Flood Watch advisory since Chantal was set for landfall earlier Sunday morning.
