Tropical Storm Chantel to bring ‘minimal impacts’ to Upstate

(WSPA) – Parts of the Upstate could see scattered showers and some gusty winds as Tropical Storm Chantel moves across the area.

According to the National Weather Service, the storm made landfall on the South Carolina coast around 4 a.m. Sunday, and it is expected to weaken as it moves across the eastern part of the state and into North Carolina and Virginia.

As the storm moves, the National Weather Service said parts of the Upstate and western North Carolina could see scattered showers and strong gusts of wind.

Officials said the likelihood of rain and wind increases in areas west of the Interstate 77 corridor. Anyone traveling west of I-77 is encouraged to use caution.
