YORKVILLE, Ill. — A body has been found during the search for a missing Yorkville teenager, according to an update released early Sunday morning by the Yorkville Police Department on social media.
Kendall County authorities had asked for help from the public in searching for 16-year-old Aiyana Williams, who Yorkville police say was missing since Monday. Officers said the missing teen girl was last spotted in the Country Hills subdivision near Fawn Ridge Court.
“It is with great sadness that the Yorkville Police Department confirms that a body has been located in the area of concern during the ongoing search for Aiyana Williams,” YPD said Sunday morning in its social media post.
“YPD patrol officers conducting foot patrol and drone operations located the body in the early hours of Sunday, June 22. At this time, investigators are working diligently to determine the circumstances surrounding this tragic discovery.”
Police did not confirm that the body found has been identified as Williams, but they did say, “We understand the concern and heartbreak this news brings to our community. An official news release will be shared once we are able to confirm further details.”
Authorities had asked the public in the area to check their properties for signs of the missing teen, and officers were are also asking residents with outdoor security cameras to review any footage from the past several days and report anything that may be helpful.
Officers said during the search, they were following up on multiple tips and reviewing surveillance footage. According to police last week, there was currently no evidence suggesting foul play, and officers said they believe the teen may have run away.
