The Israeli military says Iran has launched retaliatory strikes on Israel after President Donald Trump confirmed that the US and Israel launched "major combat operations" in Iran.
Explosions – thought to be Iranian attacks – have also been heard in the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Kuwait.
President Trump posted an eight-minute video on his social media platform, Truth Social, confirming the US’s involvement in the strikes, which hit five cities in Iran today.
It comes after weeks of threats and negotiations over Iran’s nuclear programme.
