WATCH: Barefoot, shirtless man leads police on chase through St. Augustine

ST. AUGUSTINE, Fla. (WFLA) — No shoes, no shirt, no problem for deputies with the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office who chased a barefoot, shirtless man through the streets before stopping him with a PIT maneuver.

In early June, concerned citizens informed police of a suspicious man near a shopping mall in St. Augustine.

Deputies located the man, William Middleton, 27, driving erratically, going the wrong direction and throwing trash out of the window.

When a deputy tried to stop him, he continued driving, slammed on his brakes multiple times and stuck his middle finger up at the officer.

Middleton continued to flee at high speeds, swerving through busy streets and narrowly missing head-on collisions with other drivers.

Deputies were able to deflate the right tires with stop sticks and then brought the vehicle to a stop with a PIT maneuver. Middleton finally comes out of the car barefoot, shirtless and with salsa music blasting in the background.

He was charged with DUI, reckless driving, fleeing and eluding, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
