Your Vote Counts: early voting to start for two local elections

SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. (WSPA) – Spartanburg County voters, now is the time to get ready for the polls. Early voting for sheriff and county council district 3 primaries begins on Monday, July 21st.

It will will be in a new location than you are used to; enter through the front entrance of the Spartanburg County Administration Building in Conference Room 1 (upstairs).

It’s a “fresh start” for the county according to John Baucom from Registrations and Elections.

“Regardless of what may or may not have happened in the past, now there’s an opportunity for citizens to use their voice and their vote to elect a new sheriff,” said Baucom.

To start, Baucom said its a good idea for voters to head over to MySCVotes Login

There, you can verify your registration information is up to date, check your sample ballot, and find your polling place.

“This is when voters have the chance to look at the full slate of candidates and see who best fits their desires for the future of Spartanburg County,” said Baucom.

He said all voters eligible to participate in the primaries may opt to vote early during the early voting period. That is July 21st – August 1st, Monday – Friday, from 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM at 366 N Church St.

“Mid-morning and midafternoon usually we see some lolls, those are great times,” he said. “The second and third day of early voting is Tuesday and Wednesday. We usually see a little loll, so that’s a good time to come and have a shorter wait.”

Voters wishing to cast a ballot and unable to vote on Election Day or during the entirety of the early voting period are eligible to vote absentee.  These voters must return a completed absentee application no later than 5:00 PM on Friday, July 25, 2025.

“Once the application is received, we will mail that voter ballot,” he said. “The voter has until 7:00 PM on election day to return the ballot.”

He reminded voters there is only a republican party primary.

“The top two finishers in each office, if no one gets a major majority on August 5, the top two finishers will advance to the primary runoff on August 19,” Baucom explained.

He said voters who wish to cast a ballot on Election Day, August 5, 2025, must do so at their assigned precinct polling place.  Voters who are unsure where to vote on Election Day can find their polling place online at MySCVotes Login. Polls will be open from 7:00 AM – 7:00 PM on Election Day.
