Domestic abuse against Pacific women are among the highest rates in the world. In some places a ‘bride price’ is paid to a wife’s family when they get married meaning some victims won’t leave their abuser because they’ve been ‘paid for’. This video was taken from a multi-national special episode of The Pacific investigating domestic violence across the region. Some names and identities have been changed for legal and safety reasons.

Warning: This story contains graphic accounts of gender-based violence and sexual assault.
