UK gains exemption from Trump administration's steel and aluminium tariffs

The White House has signalled the UK will be spared 50 per cent tariffs on steel and aluminium, effective immediately.

US President Donald Trump says he decided to "provide different treatment" to the UK after a deal was struck between the two countries last month.

Levies will remain at 25 per cent for imports from the UK, but they could be raised in July if the key details of the deal fail to be fully met.
