The Alice Springs Beanie Festival has taken place, featuring almost 7,000 beanies made by more than 650 "beanieologists" from around the world. An intricate hot air balloon beanie and a woolly hat made entirely from dog fur are among the creations on display at this year’s event. The quirky festival began in the remote Indigenous community of Yuendumu in 1997, but organisers say the successful event is at risk of folding due to a lack of volunteers.
