On the evening of 5 June, the occupied Crimean Peninsula experienced a massive air raid alert – it was declared five times. Explosions were heard near Krasnoperekopsk, Armiansk, Novofedorivka, and in the Saky district, according to the Telegram channel Krymskyi Veter and Russian media sources.
Five consecutive air raid alerts were declared across Crimea on the evening of 5 June due to the threat of a large-scale attack.
The first air raid alert in Sevastopol was announced at 21:35. Russian sources reported a missile threat and stated that both marine and ground public transport had been halted.
According to Russian sources, Crimea was attacked with Neptune missiles and drones.
Explosions were reported between Krasnoperekopsk and Armiansk at around 23:24, according to social media reports.
At 00:38 in Novofedorivka, air defences were activated and two explosions were heard.
Two further explosions occurred in the Saky district.
What happened in Crimea on the evening of 5 June
On the evening of 5 June, air raid sirens sounded in Sevastopol for the first time at 21:35. Russian sources reported a missile strike threat. As a result, both sea and land public transport in the city were temporarily suspended.
According to Russian reports, Ukraine attacked Crimea using Neptune missiles and drones. The air raid alert was cancelled several times throughout the night but was repeatedly reissued due to new threats.
Russian outlets complained of a large-scale combined attack. They claimed Ukraine deployed a strike drone called Lyutiy, which can fly up to 620 miles, carry approximately 110 pounds (50 kilograms) of explosives, and reach speeds of up to 100 miles per hour (160 kilometres per hour).
SBU attacked the Crimean Bridge on 3 June
Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) carried out another unique operation, striking the Crimean Bridge for the third time. This time, the attack targeted a structurally complex section of the bridge.
According to the SBU, the operation lasted several months. Initially, SBU agents planted explosives on the bridge’s supports, and early this morning at 04:44, the first device was detonated with no civilian casualties.
The head of the Security Service of Ukraine, Lieutenant General Vasyl Malyuk, personally oversaw the operation and coordinated its planning.
