Sofia Ba, TVP World’s Africa correspondent, explains how Africans are being recruited to fight for Russia, often under false promises of jobs or training. She highlights the case of 17 South Africans who unknowingly signed Russian military contracts and were sent to the frontlines in Ukraine. According to Ukrainian officials, around 1,400 Africans from dozens of countries are currently fighting as part of the Russian forces, many of them misled. Sofia Ba says Russia is exploiting a period of political and geopolitical transition in Africa, offering military support and protection to new leaders. She stresses that Africa is not a single entity and that the continent’s future depends on informed choices and genuine “win-win” partnerships with the world.
