Russian occupation forces are gradually increasing the number of attacks in the Kupiansk direction. The enemy is attempting to approach Kupiansk, Kharkiv Oblast, from two directions – from the right and left banks of the Oskol River. Artur Martirosyan, a command officer with the 43rd Separate Mechanized Brigade, spoke about this on Army TV. He said there was another attempted "flag-striking" in Kupiansk. "A group of five people. Three were killed before they could reach them. Two managed to reach Kupyansk to plant a Russian flag. They ran into a five-story building, which was also hit. One decided to surrender, and the other couldn’t think of anything better to do than climb out the fifth-floor window and test gravity," Martirosyan added. In just one week, soldiers of the 43rd Separate Mechanized Brigade eliminated fifty invaders. The number of enemy assaults is growing – the occupiers are attacking Petropavlovka, Kolesnikovka, Novaya Kruglyakovka, Kovsharovka, and Novoosinovo. According to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, the situation on the front is now better than it has been in the past 10 months. He noted that the morale of the Ukrainian military is very high. Russian military forces are attempting to increase their presence on the right bank of the Oskil River and aim to encircle the city of Kharkiv. This is reported in a The Guardian report from the Kharkiv region. It is reported that the Russians are striving to expand a small bridgehead on the right bank of the river, near the village of Dvorichna in the Kupiansk district. "Their goal is to capture the R79 highway, which leads to the railway junction of Kupiansk located to the south, and then encircle Kharkiv, the second largest city in Ukraine," writes The Guardian. The captain of the 1st Special Purpose Brigade "Bureviy" of the National Guard explained to journalists that the task of the Defence Forces is to prevent the enemy from crossing the Oskil. For this purpose, the Armed Forces of Ukraine are striking at the logistics of the Russians in the rear.
A serviceman reported that over the past two months, due to significant losses, the Russian military has reduced their attempts to ferry reinforcements across the river. As soon as the occupiers attempt to build pontoon bridges, Ukrainian defenders immediately destroy them. In addition, enemy equipment is attacked by drones.
At the same time, it is noted that the invaders have changed their tactics. Instead of large military columns, they now send infantry groups to the frontlines not only in combat armored vehicles but also on motorcycles, quad bikes, golf carts, and civilian cars.
According to the mayor of Kupiansk, Andriy Biesiedin, the district is under constant shelling, and approximately 750 residents remain on the left bank of the Oskil. Despite the lack of water, gas, communication, and medical assistance, people still refuse to leave.
The author of the article notes that, according to some Ukrainian military estimates, Russia may launch a major summer offensive. One of the Ukrainian soldiers commented to The Guardian, noting that as soon as the occupiers see weakness, "they take whatever they can get." "Our local plan is to destroy as many of them as possible until they have no one left to throw against us," the military man told the publication.
